The economic growth of the United States following World War II saw parallel growth in many industries. The sheer volume of new agricultural fields and the explosion of residential properties required many new high quality hand tools.
Among the many to respond to the needs of the agricultural and landscape professionals was George Brock, our founder. George designed and manufactured a new durable and lightweight metal rake which was the first to feature curved tines that penetrated the surface of the turf. This made each stroke more efficient and required far fewer strokes to complete each raking project. George literally created the “Lawn Rake” market with his new “flexing rake.”
During the next few years George developed a strong following, yet he did not rest on his laurels. He continued to refine his manufacturing processes and created new metal composition. George wanted to ensure that each tine would individually flex and lift embedded debris from deep below the surface and at the same time, last job after job.
In 1975, after nearly 30 years, George hired John McGuire. John quickly learned about lawn and garden from George and many other industry professionals. Never satisfied with just conversation, John decided to work with the local landscapers to see just how our tools performed in the field. Ultimately, he set the company on a solid path of manufacturing and product development.
Today, Flexrake® is America's number one brand name in raking. John makes sure that all of us here at Flexrake® continue to build on the foundation of enthusiasm for manufacturing great products that George Brock started 65 years ago.
